So what is one of New Yorkers biggest fears? (besides being trapped on a train with a massive subway rat)...well, for me yesterday it was being locked out of my apartment...with a broken ankle in crutches. I realized as soon as my driver dropped me off two whole blocks away from home (that's New York blocks) that I didn't have my keys with me. I hobbled over to Starbucks and preceded to have a mini melt down as Calvin Harris played in the background.
Nap York to the rescue! I heard about this place a couple weeks ago, having just opened. I quickly order another car service and head over.
What is Nap York you ask? It is your life saver! In short, its a respite away from the chaos of NYC. Below is their description, which I found on my very comfortable bed before my nap.
To the city of 5 boroughs and 8 million dreamers.
To the hustlers, the trendsetters and the boundary-breakers.
To the die-hard locals and the international trailblazers.
THIS IS FOR YOU.
Because you are what makes this city great.
When New Yorkers speak, the world listens.
When we dream, we dream big.
We know a New York minute is measured not in seconds, but in infinite possibility.
We're built by New Yorkers, for New Yorkers.
For the renegades and the visionaries.
The movers, the shakers, the history-makers.
As soon as you walk in, your stress level drops a few octanes. There is so much greenery everywhere and it's quiet. I walked over to the help desk and was told it would be a few minutes before they signed me in. The space is divided now in two floors. (2 more levels are coming!) The ground level is the cafe, complete with a "quiet" kitchen that brings you snacks and beverages on a moving belt. You order on an iPad, no waitstaff. The snacks range from light sandwiches, to pastries, coffee/teas, smoothies, carved fruit and so much more.
I waited no longer than 10 minutes before I was heading over to my pod. You're given a nice warm towel to relax and clean your hands before heading up. Only water is allowed inside, no food or other drinks from the cafe. There are no elevators if anyone else needs one like myself. The staff was nice enough to help me get upstairs watching me as I went up on my crutches.
Once you're upstairs, you're in a dark and very calm environment. You're escorted to your sleeping pod where you will find a clean and very comfortable mattress, pillow, blanket, black out curtains, aromatherapy diffuser, plants, noise cancelling head phones, phone chargers and a soothing sky of sparkling stars above your head. You're given an alarm, similar to the ones you get at restaurants that goes off when your time has ended.
I took a 30 minute nap. Even though it was short, it was just what I needed after a long day of physical therapy. The bed was just as if not more comfortable then my bed at home which I was locked out of. The service is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. For weary travelers, shuttle service to the airport is available for $50 (cheaper then most car services and taxis!) and you can stow your luggage. The cost for my nap was $10 for 30 minutes. You can become a member for $10 a month and receive 20% off all services, which include yoga and meditation. You can also find a quiet work space here. I was eyeing their hammock, which had I not been injured I would have taken a second nap on....gratis! So do New Yorkers ever sleep? Of course we do, and now thanks to Nap York we can do it at our convenience in their new oasis in the middle of Manhattan. Oh, I'm sure everyone is wondering....it's ONE PERSON PER POD. It's not "that type of place" as one staff member told a couple who walked in....lol. I highly recommend giving them a visit if you're in the city and need a break. It's great for travelers or for those that work in the city but live in the outer boroughs and need a nap after work if they are not headed straight home after work. I hope you enjoyed this post. This place was too good not to share with you guys. Check out their website linked in last photo below for more information. Until next post! Remember to make some time to do something good for yourself, you deserve it!
Good vibes always,
