It’s that time again! We are in full tourist mode in the city, and nothing builds up an appetite like being a tourist in NYC. If you live in town, you can point your visiting friends and family in the right direction….and most of these spots are good enough that maybe you might decide to join them!
I will give you two of my favorites, and then others that are pretty popular. First off is Oscar Wilde They have a great happy hour from 4-7 pm that’ll warm you up before you start on your photo tour. The food and drinks here are excellent and their prices Very reasonable. The holiday decor here is my favorite. They keep it tasteful, not over the top or tacky as you can see all over the city at many other establishments.
Next up is the sister restaurant to Oscar Wilde, Papillon Bistro and Bar. Decor here is also very tasteful with two bars upstairs and downstairs. I haven’t dined here, only had drinks…but the menu here is a mix of French, Italian and American. A little secret for my out of towners, they have a GREAT opera night on Saturday nights. I came here once after hours and enjoyed one of the most fantastic free Opera shows ever. Many performers from the various companies around town are known to come here after hours and sing into the wee hours of the night! Highly recommend, such a New York experience.
The next three establishments are bars. (Go ahead and judge) First one is Pete’s Tavern Around since 1864 this adorable watering hole has the Best deals for lunch! 10oz burger with fries and all the fixings for $9.95! Need I say more?!…and it’s Delicious! Been here a couple times and I would say it was more pleasant at lunch, the after work crowd makes it hard to walk around…it gets PACKED!
Not far in Gramercy is another bar named Mollys The bar has been around since 1865 and claims to be the most traditional Irish Bar in New York City. To me it was quite cozy…and the decor what you would expect in a NYC bar.
Stumbled into Paddy Maguire’s Ale House as well, but didn’t stay long enough to really check it out. The decor was cute though.
THAT OTHER PLACE…
Last and definitely my least favorite is Rolf’s German Restaurant. Now this is the place EVERYONE instagrams, with it’s over the top Christmas decorations. Word to the wise, go to the bar….order A drink, get your pics and head to any of the other places I mentioned above. I have given this place a few chances over the years, and year after year they disappoint me. They are only on this post because of the over the top Christmas theme here (that lasts way into May apparently). Every time I’ve gone there, the staff has been extremely rude. For the prices you are paying here, the quality of their food, drinks and customer service is absolutely not worth it. So pay your $20 for your hot apple cider served in a dirty wine glass, take your picture and leave. You’ve been warned.
Hope you’re all having a fun and safe holiday season. Go check these spots out and let me know here or on my instagram what your experience was. Until next time!
Good vibes always,
*Shout out to my friend Souvenir Finder for the Bar recommendations on this post!
